All children have an individual login for TT Rock Stars and timestables.co.uk. It is important that children have a secure and quick recall of their timetables as it underpins many mathematical concepts. If your child is having any problems regarding logins or passwords, please ask them to speak to their class teacher.
Please encourage your child to read as much as possible outside of school. It would be useful for all children to read a range of genres and authors over the course of the year as this will develop their knowledge and understanding substantially.
If your child is on Nessy, please ensure they access this as much as possible at home. If your child is having any problems regarding logins or passwords, please ask them to speak to their class teacher.

Autumn Term – Reflecting on the Past, Preparing for the Future 🍂
The Autumn Term in Year 6 promises to be an inspiring and thought-provoking journey as children deepen their knowledge, develop their independence and prepare for the exciting challenges of their final year at primary school. Through engaging topics and meaningful discussions, pupils will be encouraged to think critically, work collaboratively and become increasingly confident learners.
One of our most significant units this term is The Blitz and World War II. Through historical sources, photographs and personal accounts, children will explore the impact of the war on Britain, focusing on the experiences of evacuees, families, soldiers and those on the Home Front. They'll investigate how the Blitz changed communities both locally and nationally while considering how different groups experienced the conflict in different ways. This important topic will encourage children to develop empathy while evaluating the significance of one of the most influential periods in modern British history.
Our English curriculum draws upon a range of powerful and inspiring texts. We'll begin by exploring Varmints, using the beautifully illustrated story to write our own compelling narratives before studying Rose Blanche, which provides a child's perspective on World War II. During the second half of the term, we'll write persuasive letters inspired by Last, create atmospheric narrative poetry based on Highwayman, develop historical adventure writing and finish with balanced discussions linked to Letters from the Lighthouse. These diverse writing opportunities will allow children to refine their grammar, vocabulary and authorial style while writing for a range of audiences and purposes.
In Mathematics, children will strengthen their understanding of place value, the four operations, fractions and converting units. Throughout the term, they will continue developing fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills, preparing them for the increasingly challenging mathematical concepts they will encounter throughout Year 6.
Our Science learning begins with Animals, Including Humans, where we'll investigate how nutrients and water are transported around the body and explore the functions of the circulatory system. Later in the term, we'll become electrical engineers, designing and building simple circuits while learning how electrical components work together and how circuit diagrams are represented using recognised scientific symbols.
Our geographical studies take us on a journey across Europe, exploring its countries, physical landscapes, human geography and the relationships between nations. This will help children build a broader understanding of the continent and its place within the wider world.
Creativity remains an important part of Year 6. Inspired by contemporary British artist Lubaina Himid, children will transform detailed 2D drawings into 3D sculptures, experimenting with form, structure and artistic expression. In Design and Technology, they'll apply their knowledge of nutrition and seasonal ingredients to design and prepare a healthy snack, combining practical cooking skills with an understanding of balanced diets.
Technology continues to play an important role throughout the curriculum. In Computing, children will explore how information is shared and transferred across networks while learning about online collaboration. They'll then apply these skills by planning, designing and creating their own webpages, considering layout, navigation, accessibility and copyright.
Alongside these exciting subjects, children will continue to develop their wider knowledge and personal skills through French, Music, PE, RE and RSHE. They'll extend their conversational French, explore a variety of musical genres including pop, jazz and blues, develop teamwork and resilience through sport, reflect on beliefs and commitment in different faiths and explore themes such as democracy, equality, respect and celebrating diversity.
As the children approach the end of their primary school journey, this Autumn Term offers countless opportunities to challenge themselves academically, grow in confidence and become thoughtful, independent young people. We look forward to celebrating their achievements and supporting them through what promises to be an exciting, rewarding and memorable term. 🌟
