Music Intent

At Barnfields Primary School, we believe that music lessons should be fun and inspiring, engaging and inspiring the children with songs, lyrics and movement.

Our music curriculum provides a high quality music education that engages and inspires pupils to develop a love of music and nurtures their talent as musicians. Through our music lessons, children are actively involved in a wide range of musical opportunities. They develop their singing voices, using body percussion and whole body actions, and learn to handle and play classroom instruments effectively to create and express their own and others’ music. All children are actively encouraged and given the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument, with additional instrumental lessons being delivered by visiting peripatetic staff. Through a range of whole class, group and individual activities, children have opportunities to explore sounds, listen actively, compose and perform. Throughout their time at Barnfields Primary School, the children have many opportunities to perform in front of an audience both within and outside of school, building self-confidence and belief.
