Curriculum in Year 4:
Autumn Term
This term, we are travelling back to Ancient Rome to discover what life was like. Our learning will take us on an incredible journey as we study the infamous eruption of Mount Vesuvius; why the Roman Army was so successful; Julius Caesar's reign and explore how the Romans have influenced our lives today. In science, we will be exploring states of matter through practical investigations and research. We will study volcanoes of the world in geography and learn about the process of an eruption. We will create a Roman tile inspired by Gorgon’s Head in Art. In design and technology, we will be making a rustic meal fit for the Emperor! You can find more information about our exciting Year 4 curriculum on the 'Curriculum at Barnfields' page on the website!
Spring Term
During the Spring term, the children in Year 4 have a very exciting trip to the ThinkTank Museum in Birmingham to take our science learning to the next level! The children will learn all about life cycles and get to explore the wonderful museum for the day! As well as that, the children will be learning all about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, applying their historical knowledge to creating a print of aspects of the Staffordshire Hoard in art. In geography, the children will be learning about the United Kingdom to further secure their knowledge of place, and in computing we will be creating our very own website on Microsoft Sway! There are so many things to look forward to in the Spring term - if you'd like to find out more, please see the Year 4 Curriculum Outline on our website!
Summer Term
For our final term in Year 4, the children will be learning all about the Industrial Revolution! They will exploring the exciting and innovative developments of the steam locomotive and how it transformed Britain. Science will be truly electrifying this term as the children will be constructing simple circuits and investigating how different insulators and conductors affect electrical currents. The children will deep dive into their local area in Geography where they will be learning all about The Potteries and how it put Staffordshire on the map! In Design and Technology, the children will be using their knowledge of electricity to make their very own torch. It's an exciting final term and we can't wait to get stuck in!
In June, the children will be completing the Multiplication Tables Check and we will be inviting you into school nearer to the time to share all of the information you need about this.
